Karen McKibbin, Psy.D.
Licensed Psychologist in Oregon & Washington state.

I was born and raised in Northern Ireland and moved to the USA in 2002. I completed my training at Pacific University in Oregon, where I received training in autism support groups for parents. During graduate school, I also had the opportunity to train in the autism evaluation clinic in Doernbecher Children’s Hospital at OHSU, where I also received formal training on autism specific assessment tools, considered to be the gold standard in autism assessments.

I completed my internship at the Kennedy Krieger Institute at Johns Hopkins in Baltimore, MD. During my internship, I trained in the pediatric feeding clinic and the pediatric developmental disorders clinic, specializing in working with children and their families on the autism spectrum.

I returned to Portland in 2007 and graduated with a doctorate in Clinical Psychology. I completed my postdoctoral training at the Autism Clinic at OHSU and also developed a autism specific treatment program for three years before moving into private practice in 2011.

I have also spent time working with the world renowned expert in autism spectrum disorders (ASD), Dr. Tony Attwood, in his clinics in Australia, participating in treatment sessions, diagnostic evaluations and groups focusing on depression in teens with ASD and in social skills groups.

In my spare time, i enjoy spending time with my family. We love to hike, watch movies, ride bikes, go bouldering and swimming and travel. I also love to cook and crochet.

Life on the Autism Spectrum:
A guide for Girls & Women

In 2015, I published a book, Life on the Autism Spectrum: A Guide for Girls and Women.

Working on this book was a true labor of love, and it was an honor to work on it with my mentor and good friend, Dr. Tony Attwood.

This book focuses on explaining why ASD can look different in females, and how this can lead to a diagnosis being overlooked. This book contains information, tools and strategies to help females on the autism spectrum in their day-to-day life. It can be purchased from jkp.com, amazon.com, or through your local book retailer.
